Ms. Rebecca (Becky) Haddad
Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Becky Haddad is a longtime, passionate and committed volunteer for the Komen Denver Affiliate and Komen National (Susan G. Komen for the Cure). She has served in many leadership positions at both levels. She has been involved for 15 years at the Denver Affiliate where she developed the education program, including organizing and training volunteers for the speakers’ bureau and health fairs. After leading the education efforts for six years, the Board of Directors elected her President of the Affiliate. In 1999 to meet the needs of the medically underserved and uninsured, women and men in the diverse populations, she created the Multicultural Conference, entitled “Breast Health and Cultural Beliefs: Celebrating our Differences and Similarities”. This conference offers breast health/breast cancer education and awareness information to hundreds of medically underserved and uninsured women and men. It promotes collaboration among diverse groups and empowers women and men from targeted populations to learn more about breast health. The Multicultural Conference has been adopted as a Komen National model program.

In the ten years of service at the National level she has experienced many rewarding assignments. After years of involvement in education programs and trainings, Becky was elected to the National Board of Directors for two years. It was especially rewarding to see the “big picture” of one of the most respected non profits in the world. Surprisingly, there were more fantastic appointments ahead. In September 2007 Becky was selected as one of twenty-five extraordinary USA delegates to attend the Global Advocate Summit in Budapest, Hungary. The 25 U.S. breast cancer advocates met with representatives from 30 countries. The overarching goals for this international summit were to elevate the dialogue on breast cancer’s global impact and to share strategies to combat this disease.

Another exceptional opportunity occurred when she was invited to be a Race Ambassador to represent Komen National at the international level. The first Breast Cancer Awareness Walk in Kosovo will take place in October 2008 and Becky will provide guidance and assistance as the local community plans the event. It is an exciting time for her as she shares her knowledge and expertise with developing countries.

Professionally, Becky received a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana and graduated from the School of Medical Technology at Baylor University, Dallas, Texas. She is currently employed as a staff medical technologist at a local hospital laboratory in Aurora, Colorado. She also finds time to be a very part-time Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Personally, Becky prides herself on the fact that she is a 22 year breast cancer survivor. She is single and enjoys spending time with her family of 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren. In addition to her family Becky finds pleasure in traveling, dining with friends and spending time in the mountains.

Becky concludes “I consider having had breast cancer as a gift. I have been afforded many opportunities and growth that I would not have experienced otherwise. I especially treasure all the friends, relationships and experiences as my life has evolved from my breast cancer diagnosis twenty-two years ago to being an international representative in a global breast health initiative. Some of the most important words that exemplify my work are ‘collaboration, cooperation, teamwork, sharing and empowerment’. It is indeed an honor and privilege to represent Komen and the U.S. in our goal to have a world without breast cancer.”
