Statement of Contact Group in Pristina
September 15, 2006
[Pristina, USOP] - Contact Group representatives in Pristina wish to express their deep disappointment that the Kosovo Assembly failed to adopt an amendment to the Law on the Use of Languages in Kosovo in its session on September 14. The amendment was proposed by a special panel comprised of representatives of UNMIK/the Council of Europe, the PISG and the parliamentary group Six Plus. The failure to pass this amendment presents a discouraging picture of the Assembly's willingness to consider the concerns of key ethnic communities in Kosovo. The Contact Group representatives use this opportunity to remind all Assembly members, but especially those who voted against the amendment, as well as Kosovo authorities, that demonstrating their commitment to secure and enhance the rights of ethnic communities in Kosovo will be a crucial factor in the determination of Kosovo's final status.
