Contact Group Press Statement - Mitrovica April 6, 2006

[Pristina, USOP] - On April 6, the Contact Group visited the city of Mitrovica and met with regional mayors. The Contact Group noted that Mitrovica's problems -- the city's division, the collapsed economy, restricted freedom of movement, unresolved property claims -- will require constructive engagement and greater cooperation among residents on both sides of the River Ibar. It also urged the parties to seek practical solutions for Mitrovica, especially in the context of the decentralization discussion. The Contact Group pledged sustained attention to Mitrovica both now and after Kosovo's status is resolved. It reaffirmed previous Contact Group statements that there will be no partition of any kind of Kosovo, either de facto or otherwise.
